DC day 6 The missing link

You might be wondering what that boy is talking about. Really simple if you think about. We have been to Mount Vernon, home of George Washington. He of course fought in the revolutionary war. We have been to birthplace of Lincoln. While he did not fight he was certainly involved. Been to civil war battlefields. What link, what's missing??

How about the war of 1812? Did you forget about that one? No movie's made about it, sort of lost in the fog. Except there was this one battle, this one flag, this one song..

Got it now? No, what if I mentioned the name Francis Scott Key? Yep, that happened here.

A nice park with a lot of exhibits to see and read. Being Memorial day weekend they had folks in period costumes and ranger talks. Nice to know if you have a flag for a fallen person, you can bring it out and they will raise it. You can then boast honesty that it flew over For McHenry.

Notice the stars are not of current flag.

A nice informative visit to an important place. Me and General Armbister had a nice planning session together. Obligatory photo below.

No matter where we go or see, always seems to be quilt involved.

Buckle your seat belts, we are time warping ahead 2 centuries...

It's not what you see, it's what you don't see. Our view of the Key bridge that was knocked down. You can see roadway on either side but middle is missing.

Ok, that puts a wrap on DC visit. Sunday a rest day then try to head south on Monday. Not sure what I fear most, the beltway or getting out of this park. It is jam packed. Our next stop near Lynchburg Virginia is probably in a dead zone for cell and data. If so will update when we can. Will be there for 3 nights so don't panic if we don't post for a few days. So begins our month long swing thru Dixie.

...gather ye rosebuds while ye may...
