DC Day 3, part 1 of ?

As I have said before we have a packed agenda, today was no exception. Now I must acknowledge that our agenda does NOT include mass transportation of any sort. Yep that means we have joined the crazies' on the streets. We all know the politicians up here are crazy. They have to be to drive on these roads. The roads will make you crazy.

As the title says, day 3 part 1. I don't really know how many parts it will be. For sure 2, maybe 3.

We started off our day driving to a place you have probably seen before, at least on TV. Rather than my poor explanation follow this L I N K for detailed information. I hope to add to your learning of a beautiful place

The National Cathedral in all it's splendor. I have watched presidential funerals held here, (George H.W Bush), being the last one. Those TV images did not prepare me for what we saw when entering.

Those chairs are the ones dignitaries have set in during services. They are not comfortable, perhaps the only negative you will hear from me.

Stained glass on all sides as you would expect. The first window below is called the Space window. It was presented to the cathedral by some of the Apollo astronauts. Look close at the orb near center top. At the center of that orb you see what appears to be a white dot. That is a rock from the moon

The round glass has a prominent place high up on one end, facing the altar. It is called Creation Rose.

The artistry and the detail is just stunning. Many, many skilled craftsman toiled to create this wonderful place.

Just one of several pipe organs throughout the Cathedral.

Several people of note, not part of the past clergy, are buried here. President Woodrow Wilson

Helen Keller, her companion and Matthew Shepard are entombed in lower level.

 Up next the lower level.
