DC day 3, part 2

 I left you on the main floor of the cathedral. There is more to see, much more. In the lower level you have small chapels that mimic the main Cathedral. By mimic I mean they have gothic arches and ceilings. Nooks or niches built in the walls, massive doors and wrought iron work. Where one might expect something plain, there is detail carvings and paintings.


 






The above pictures are from the lower level. They have a special chapel for young people as well


Note the small chairs and baptistry. You might have noticed from the outside photo the twin towers. More rooms, sedate compared to everything else, and views of the city.



A magnificent place full of history. As I predicted a few post back, we have walked in the footsteps of Presidents and of common men. I appreciate good architecture, while Gothic style buildings have been built for ages I am still amazed.


Wowed and humbled
