Day 3 near perfect
Tucson is experiencing above normal temperature this week. That makes it perfect weather of us tourist. 84 degrees and severe clear skys, outstanding. Was a day of relaxing, national parks and nostalgia. Learned new things about some desert fauna and wildlife. Extra points if you recognize the mountain in the back ground of this photo.
Helps if you are a fan of old westerns...

Day 2 LONG DAY...
From Van Horn to Tucson is a whole lot of nothing. Nothing important or interesting to share. Made it through border patrol check point with no hassle. The view of Juarez Mexico from El Paso is depressing at best. No wonder they are crossing the border in droves.

Day one
First day found us driving from Alvord to Van Horn Texas. Big deal eh...well consider that was a distance of 493 miles. Now compare that with Boston Ma to Washington DC, 450 miles. We have 130 miles or so to even leave the state, same distance in NE we would have crossed through multiple states.
We like to experience historic hotels when possible, get away from the cookie cutter chain stuff. Sure the rooms might be smaller but how much room do you really need? In Van Horn we got to experience the restored 1930'era El Capitan. Wonderful. Super friendly staff, clean rooms and free WiFi. Find it here. Others we have enjoyed are Strate, and Commodore.
A few shots of the El Capitan.

Road trip
Tomorrow brings the start of our road trip to Tucson. Yes, I know this blog was supposed to be about travels in the rv. Too long a story to go into but rv trips soon come. In the meantime sit back and relax and enjoy a week in the desert southwest. With forecast high temps in the 80's it should be fun.
