Well if you stopped by to be wowed by something on the National Mall, you will be disappointed. In fact we have no plans that include the National Mall. It was always going to be a "game time" decision on the mall. We have a full schedule not including the mall.
Today we visited a place that I last visited back in 1962 I believe. Mount Vernon was the home of George Washington. It is owned and curated by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association. They have owned it since 1860 and are the reason we can see, learn and enjoy it's history today. No federal funding at all.
As with all good museums we learned more about George Washington than we knew previously. I will post pictures of some artifacts, buildings and other exhibits with limited commentary.
Now more scenes
I was about 10 years old on my previous visit. The one thing I remember is the tomb.
The mansion faces the river. Unfortunately unable to get shot from front. I have seen outhouse before but none like this.
A man of impeccable character who did not want what life forced on him. There is a quote which I can not find. To paraphrase he said he would rather be at Mount Vernon with a couple of friends than meet with the heads of states of European countries.
