Well that was a bust. Mary has wanted to come here for a long time. I had been before on a business trip. We dedicated today to visit their Riverwalk area, much touted as the place to go. With visions of San Antonio's river walk in our head we headed downtown.
There went that dream! A lot of homeless/street people around. On every street corner. Everywhere. While there where restaurants around, it was not an area we wanted to spend much time. Did find the First Methodist Church.
A few views
We decided to leave that area and visit a casino out near where we are staying. Happens to be where I stayed during the business conference all those years ago. Had a good meal and left them a little money in the slots.
The following is solely my observations/opinions. We have been on the road 40 days. In that time we have met some nice people and even have standing offers for free dinners and invites to come visit them. We have also met some assholes. Campsite etiquette is a thing of the past. People walk thru your site with no regard for your privacy or simple respect. Why must people put their phones on speakerphone then carry on extended an conservation. Has happened in restaurants and campgrounds. I am talking a 100 feet away and I can plainly hear both sides of the conversation. Good manners say take your hat off when inside, you probably already know that gets trampled everyday. Watched a man come in wearing a Stetson that he took off and placed on rack while dinning. I went over and thanked him for doing so. Yesterday while in St. Mary's church it was all I could do to not verbally confront a man for wearing his hat in the sanctuary. He was old enough to know better but if not a sign plainly asked everyone to remove their hats. I am getting old and cantankerous but I am going to start calling these people out over their transgressions
Step down from my soap box...for now.
Tomorrow brings a new state as we move on to Oregon.

Virginia City
Virginia City sits up in the foothills southeast of Reno. Yes, that meant more roads that Mary loathes. She stays so doped on dramamine and the like she really does not know where we have been.
A link or two to set the stage...
Virginia City
St Mary's
Comstock
Yes, I know I said I would post here prior to posting on FB. But I cannot help posting a real time shot from some saloon. Besides you all get the behind the scenes stuff, not just the salacious drunk photos.
Speaking of that Mary asked if I wanted a second beer. It was good, setting was perfect. I then reminded her of the snakey, twisty road we had to go back down. Did she really want me to have another round....I quit at one...
We are at a very nice commercial park in Sparks. Using their internet before we head off into the country and internet becomes iffy.
More from Reno
Did you watch the Priest grade video? that was downhill, Think of up hill with Mary looking out over the edge with no guardrail...

priest grade
I promised you a video the other day and here it is. Took 90 minutes to upload, even on a better connection.
Two things to consider: no idea where all the rattling is coming from. Maggie is not a rattle trap. The other is the apparent speed is deceptive. Never got above 30 mph the whole time. The 'old Priest grade' is weight restricted to 7500lbs, we weigh in at 30000lbs. Vertical drop is about 2000', beginning to end
Safely in Sparks. Haircut and shopping have been the order of the day. Glad to be out of California, although we pass thru parts of it twice more but do not stop. Diesel is a $1 cheaper per gallon in Nevada
Enjoy about a 15 minute diversion to your day
carpe diem

Ready for a hike?
Got your hiking boots on? Neither did Mary, come along anyway
This concludes our visit to South Lake Tahoe. Beautiful area but too much traffic. My second visit, Mary's first. Short drive up to Reno Sparks area for three days. Long list of things to see and do, will have to check back to see what happens

South Lake Tahoe
We have moved. We are now about 100 yards form the shore of Lake Tahoe. Beautiful scenery between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe via 50.
Shot some videos today but need faster internet connection to upload them.
Summer 2018 trip
First time to have access to major grocery store in some time. Dang but stuff is high here. Got out for under $300. Maggie ain't big for holding groceries. Here for three nights then short drive to Reno area
Friend had quintuple bypass surgery today. I am not going to complain about anything...
My unofficial daughter got married today. We are very happy for her
