Coastal and coastal Redwoods

 Yesterday I promised better photos. I think these are better, but maybe not, you decide

 We are staying in Brookings Oregon. It is about 30 miles north of Crescent City Califonia. The redwoods national and state parks are not contiguous and stretch down the coast. today we drove about 30 miles south of Crescent city along coastal highway 101, or as they say here 'the 101'.

  Hard for the camera to capture the size and to put into perspective the size of these trees. I tried to decide which photo best describes standing in a grove of these behemoths.

 That about sums it up. Sequoias versus coastal redwoods, who is bigger? (you know size does matter!) Redwoods get taller but Sequoias have more girth and are therefore considered bigger.

 We are here till Tuesday but have a full schedule of things to see and do. It is June 15th and we are wearing jackets! Not many June days have we done that in the past. And speaking of June 15th, Happy birthday to our youngest who turns 37 today. (damn he cannot be that old as we are still children ourselves!)

A milestone day

 A somewhat major milestone, at least for us. We have been on both coast via air travel. Today marks the day we first saw both coast via the RV. I think a not insignificant accomplishment, all things considered. We came here for two reasons. One is to visit Redwoods National park, a brief view of you will see now. And second was to tour the Southern Oregon coast. Both reasons offer beautiful views of nature. Albeit very different

Crater lake

 Enjoyed a beautiful day at Crater Lake National Park. It is a unique and picturesque place to see. It was not fully open due to snow on the roads, I know hard to believe. Nothing flows into the lake and nothing flows out

You just never know

 When we arrived here we noticed our neighbors coach. Why? Because it was exactly like ours; model, paint scheme everything.

 So I am down at the creek fishing and a guy walks up to me and starts commenting on the water. We talk for a while and he inquires if I am the owner of the coach next to him. Yep, he was our neighbor. Introduced myself to him and he said his name was Gary. Between the creek side conversation then later at our site we talked quite a bit. They like to camp host at Oregon parks, they live in Park Cities Utah. He has a blog on Facebook, Coffee with Carmen. Look it up, Carmen being the name of their coach. Another crazy guy that names their RV. We talked about best places on the coast to see and have coffee. I admitted I was probably only person on earth that has NEVER been in a Starbucks. He was more along the line of small, quaint coffee shops. Wanted me to stop in one near one of our future stops and say Gary and Sharon sent us. Talked about our coaches and the things and people you meet along the way. Nice, laid back guy.

 They were moving on this morning and I offered to help. As we have done with others he said "let me give you my card". I said yes, let me give you one of ours. Like a lot of RVers we have a 'personal card' with photo and contact info.

 Gary's card was his business card, not a personal card.

Internet works better early in morning when smart people are sleeping. It gets bright around 5am out here and I have not slept late in weeks. I shot this with my DSLR in video mode as I was too lazy to go get Action Cam. Or truthfully I did not want to walk away from the beauty and the moment.

It was love at first sight

 I shot a video for this but once again weak internet prevents me from uploading at this time. Instead enjoy some photos. These are of the logging museum and Spring Creek. the creek is about 2 miles long, near constant 42 degrees. Gin clear. Beautiful, beautiful is all I can say. Bought an out of state license which is not cheap because I had to try my luck. Love it here. Oregon is off to a good start with us and promise of better things to come.

 Tomorrow brings a visit to Crater Lake. It was rain and SNOW up there this morning so we decided to wait a day. Nice to have flexibility.

Chiloquin Oregon

 Do yourself a favor if ever driving out this way. Take 395 north out of Reno to Susanville then 44 to Old Station then 89 to Mt Shasta. Lovely scenery and the road is good, even for large RVs.

 We are now at Collier Memorial SP, deep in the pines, twenty feet from a trout stream. Not all bad
