Wow, what a ride

 We left Hurricane heading toward Torrey, our route allowed a stop at Bryce Canyon. It is nice but not as Zion in our opinion. Correct name should be bluff, overlook, something along those lines would be more correct description. My camera battery died so we used Mary's phone. Does not capture the depth of field that would help show it off.

  To be sure it has a rugged beauty about it.


  Get out your Utah map again.In an effort to see the country I choose to take scenic route 12 from Bryce to Torrey. It was spectacular in it's scenic beauty along it's path....best seen from a motorcycle,not 15 tons of RV. Narrow two lane road the entire way. 10% grades to ascend and descend. Hairpin turns with NO guardrails. Climbed to 9700ft elevation going over Boulder mountain. Mary was far, far from being a happy navigoddess. While I will never travel that route again, you should. As you probably figured out, no photos en-route. Truly a white knuckle drive. I went for the bottle as soon as we we were parked at Thousand Islands RV park.

end of a stressful day...

Time to say good bye...

  At least to Hurricane Utah! We have been here a week, much longer than planned but time has flown bye. Hurricane is a nice little town, no desire to live here, but nice nonetheless. Went back out to Zion today and enjoyed some nice hikes. Came home tired.


  I showed you a picture of the $1,000,000 plus Prevost beside us on one side. This came in on our other side. Has been attracting attention all day.

  Tomorrow is a travel day where we will go thru Bryce Canyon and the Grandstaircase Escalante. Our stopping point will be Torrey Utah, our base to explore Capital Reef NP.

 We are chillin at Willow wind RV park in Hurricane. A very nice park with good facilities. Our neighbors are acceptable.

Hunkered down in Hurricane

  I know, title sounds like a oxymoron if ever there was one. We will be staying in Hurricane the next 4 days. Very windy and have been watching snow storms in surrounding mountains. Smart decision NOT to travel to Bryce today. Will try and see somethings in area, maybe even down to St. George, maybe return to Zion to hike a few more miles. Had to drive in ice and snow during my career. Dang sure not going to drive Maggie on mountain roads in snow if I  can avoid it. The snow we drove in back in Roswell never stuck to streets. If something interesting comes up will let you know, if not know that we are safe and sound.

"Houston, we have a problem..."

 We have reservations near Bryce Canyon tomorrow. Trouble is the area is under a winter storm warning. Our campground is at an elevation of 8,000 ft and heavy snow is predicted. So we need to go to plan B. Cannot stay where we are as the are already booked. Need to find a new home for next 4 days, without totally destroying remaining reservations. Hopefully I can find us a new home.

Zion

 Today we visited Zion National Park. What a beautiful place it is to see.The walls of the canyon are vertical, and I mean as straight up as can be. My camera skills can not truly show their grandeur. We did some more hikes up steep trails and returned to camp pretty tired. Tomorrow we may return to Springdale, town just outside the park, and do a little looking and perhaps shopping.

 While it was very nice today, snow is in forecast by Friday when we get to Bryce.

Travel day

 Well we left the Grand Canyon behind today. Our destination was north west but we had to head south east to get there. The canyon is so big you have to drive a ways to go around it. Speaking of that, get out your Arizona map or at least a pen or pencil. We left the canyon on 64 heading to Cameron then followed 89 to Bitter Springs. From there we took Alt 89 over to Fredonia. From there it was 389/59 to Hurricane UT. That route was over 2 lane roads the whole way, 261 miles. Make your self a promise to do that drive sometime. Stunning beauty, dramatic scenery, great elevation changes. A wonderful experience.

 We are at Sand Hollow state park just outside Hurricane, (Hurr-i=can), Utah. Tomorrow we visit Zion National Park. Weather is nice today but starts to deteriorate later in week.
