Land between Lakes

Wednesday brought a trip deeper into the Land between Lakes recreation area. We had visited this area seven years ago but desired to explore it again and further. The mind strains to imagine how life was like on a farm such as this.

We also took time to spend time with some of the local ladies.

True American hero

While still camped at Canal campground, we took a road trip into Illinois. Main purpose was to see Sharon and Marks new house. Mission accomplished on that and enjoyed some good bar b que for lunch. In route to their house we happened to pass by a city young people of a certain age knew by heart. What city you ask, well none other than Metropolis!

Ring a bell? Any idea which American hero?

 A hint:

Have you figured it out?

Surely you know by now...

Long tiring day...

Knew this day would be long and it did not disappoint. Covered 350 miles, mainly freeways. Now stopped for the night in Forrest City Arkansas. Had a decent meal we walked to as we are not unhooking the truck. Nothing special, just a convenient spot priced right. Tomorrow brings a 250 mile day to Canal Campground where we will be for 8 nights. All things quilts on the agenda.

Tyler State Park parting shots

The all day storms with torrential rains altered our plans. In between storms i did catch a nice bass of about 2 lbs. Alas i failed to bring my camera so dear reader you will have to trust me. Now for a mix of the old, the new and the missing.

Like many parks Tyler was started by our friends the CCC's in the '30s. We are forever in their debt.

What did you plan for today?

Best laid plans of mice and men is the old saying I believe. Mother nature really doesn't care about your plans.

Got a good book handy?

Such is life...
