Day 4

Today was quiet and fairly uneventful. We made a quick dash home to get Mary some pain meds, ate lunch at Backwoods bar b que and did laundry. Tomorrow is moving day to Still house hollow. Looking forward to the peace and quiet. The hectic noise of this area wears on you after a while.

 On the road again tomorrow.

Day 2

Todays assignment involved driving the Willow City loop. This drive is known for it's scenic beauty, especially in spring when the bluebonnets are in bloom. Sadly they were past their peak but a nice drive on a beautiful day.

Next came the obligatory walk on main street in Fredericksburg. Have done it many times but new items in shops coupled with people watching makes for fun. Lunch time found us in Auslanders for some good German food. Tonight just snacks and wine.

Day 1

We have begun our travels with a short drive to Fredericksburg. Staying at a nice rv park shaded by some nice oak trees. Mike and Cheryl are staying in some cabins a couple miles down 290, Vineyard trails. Good conversation, good wine and good food.

Final preparations

Tomorrow brings the start to our month long trip. For this trip no special destination(s). Just a little roam around Texas. A short day to start with as our first stop is Fredericksburg to meet up with long time friends. Nonetheless packing for a full 30 days is required. Questions and doubts remain that we will be able to complete the planned trip. Mom is in failing health and we may have to alter course and plans.

 Stay tuned

Nostradamus has nothing on me

Not familiar with Nostradamus? He was a French astrologist widely accredited with predicting the future. I started this little travel blog 9 years ago to document our travels. While I have neglected it over the past couple of years Mary wanted me to revive it. She uses my photos and ramblings as reference points when she works on her scrapbook stuff.

The things I have written have all been done the day of the post, totally off the cuff. Mary in going back six years ago came across a post from May 2017. I had not read it since then and had no memory of what I had said, or should I say written? What ever the answer, follow this link May 2017 and perhaps be amazed as I was.

A new beginning

In the fall of 2022 we decided it was time to part way with our beloved Maggie (our name for our motorhome). A tough decision but the correct one for many reasons. We brought her home in late November, emptied out all our stuff, changed out the couch and took her to a consignment lot. We were very fortunate in that she sold quickly.

Us being without some sort of rv was out of the question. We had done plenty of research into what was available based on towing capacity of our truck. The truck is in great shape and we did not want to get bigger truck just so we could buy bigger trailer. We went to a couple of dealers to look at various makes/models and settled on one. There were only three available in the state. Not wanting to buy a new trailer until the motorhome sold we crossed our fingers and waited. When the motorhome sold and we were awaiting funding we purchased our new home on wheels.

Going from a 35ft class A diesel pusher motorhome to a 19ft tow behind travel trailer would present some challenges. With limited storage where does one put all the stuff we had been carrying? Time to decide between necessity and like to have.

As our travel has been restricted due to Mary recovering from total knee replacement surgery. But we have a three day trip coming up next Sunday. We return to South Llano river State Park for first time in 20 plus years. That is quickly followed by a month long trip around Texas.

So the title of this entry has multiple meanings. A new beginning for us in Veronica (name of our new trailer) and a new beginning for this travel blog that has been silent too long

 Till the next post...
